Before I even started working on my collection it was premeditated that I would have my religion represented. I chose to involve my religion because I see it as a big part of my life and to rebel against the fact that many fashion houses founded prior to World War 2 had been tainted by the Nazis. Today Anti-Semitism still exists in the fashion industry and I was made aware of it when I heard about John Galliano’s comments about Jewish people that lead to his departure from Dior and recently Kanye West expressive love for Hitler. During the development of my collection I started reading The Dressmakers of Auschwitz, the book greatly inspired and served as a reminder of why I chose to have my religion involved. I would say there is a sense of pain and brutality I’ve been trying to convey in my collection with some of the cut, patterning and my choice of the color red. Black follows along as I see it representing death and chrome ties the two together while adding to my mechanical and futuristic aesthetic. I’ve developed a quilt that is meant to appear as chains to symbolize being held captive. The title of my collection is Blood on The Throat Plate.
